Pigott, Maris and Berry on scoresheet in United win
Cambridge United continued their winning start to pre-season, registering a 4-2 win over KFC Uerdingen in Germany.Joe Pigott was the star of the first half for what was his opening 45 minutes in the amber and black shirt, as the striker twice found the net before half time to give Shaun Derry’s side a comfortable advantage at the break.
His first for the U’s saw the former Charlton man finish accurately on the turn from eight yards out on 35 minutes, whilst he showed good composure soon after to slot in his second on the rebound after initially missing from the penalty spot .
Much like the trip St Neots Town on Saturday, Shaun Derry elected to make a complete change to his side in the second period with the likes of Coulson, Berry, Williamson and youngster George Maris all thrown into action.
The latter would also notch his first goal for the U's, as he fired a 25 yard free kick into the top corner with 11 minutes left to play after his former Barnsley team mate and recently named U’s captain, Luke Berry, had headed in United’s third 12 minutes earlier.
KFC Uerdingen pulled two goals back within the final ten minutes of the clash, but Shaun Derry’s men held on for the win and will now look forward to their next fixture against SG Wattenscheid 05 on Saturday which will complete their pre-season tour of Holland and Germany.
