GREG ABBOTT LEAVES CAMBRIDGE UNITED TO JOIN BRADFORD CITY
Cambridge United confirm that the club have agreed to allow Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott to leave to join Bradford City.Due to unique circumstances, Abbott will depart the U’s to re-join the side where he played almost 300 games as a player between 1982 and 1991, to work alongside former teammate Stuart McCall at Valley Parade.
Cambridge United CEO Jez George explains that Abbott leaves with the club’s best wishes, he said: “We have really enjoyed working with Greg and are obviously disappointed by the departure, but fully understand his reasons for leaving.
“He is based in the north of England and given his history at Valley Parade, Bradford City are very much his Football Club. Looking back at his playing career, he spent over ten seasons in total with the club, winning the Division Three Title and also played with their current manager, so it’s probably the only job he would leave Cambridge United to take on.
“Everything has been handled correctly and the decision has happened very quickly, but that is often the case in football.”
He added: “We’ll take our time in deciding where we move forward from here, but everything is in place with regards to the club’s recruitment, so it will have absolutely no effect with what we do within the current transfer window.
“Greg leaves Cambridge United with our blessing. We understand the unique circumstances and sincerely wish him the very best in his new role with Bradford.”
