New signing Ben Williamson excited to don the Amber and Black jersey again
Fresh from signing a permanent deal with the U’s that will keep the striker at the Abbey Stadium until the summer of 2017, Ben Williamson is already keen to pull on the Amber and Black jersey once more.
Earlier today the 27-year old put pen to paper on an 18-month contract and has now set his eyes firmly on helping to push the U’s up the League Two ladder.
Williamson said: “When I was here on loan my aims were clearly to get time on the pitch and make an impression. It doesn’t change too much now, as I’ll be looking to do the best I can for the club.
“If I can continue play in games and score goals then that will help to contribute towards pushing the team up the League.
“As a striker you are always on the lookout for more goals. I got off to a good start before so now I’m looking to carry on producing those performances.”
Meanwhile, the former Gillingham and Port Vale marksman revealed the aspects of the club that attracted him to sign permanently, and noted the warm welcome from his fellow team mates and Manager Shaun Derry as the primary motive.
“It is a massive plus for me to come back to Cambridge to work under the manager and I’m really pleased to get the chance to play for him again.
“When I first arrived everybody was extremely welcoming and I get along with all the players and staff, so it clicked when I moved to Cambridge. It’s a great feeling to be back and receive that welcome from the boys again and now I can look forward to the game on Saturday.
Williamson could be in line to mark his return for the U’s against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road this weekend and is desperate to make another positive impression for the travelling Amber Army.
“We are all after a good result and obviously I want to get off to a good start but the Luton game will be tough, especially going away from home where the atmosphere will be loud with it being quite local.
“However, with our fans behind us I’m sure we can get the three points.”
