NORRIS “PRIVILEGED” TO BE PULLING ON THE GLOVES AT THE ABBEY STADIUM AGAIN

PLAYER INTERVIEW: WILL NORRIS

Goalkeeper Will Norris says it’s a privilege to be wearing the Cambridge United shirt at the Abbey Stadium once more and is looking to keep a firm grasp on the number one spot.

The U’s shot stopper produced a string of outstanding saves to keep Hartlepool United at bay in Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash, ensuring he returned between the sticks in style for United.

Norris said: “When you do receive the shirt, the aim is of course to give your best performance for the team and look to keep hold of it. I want to be as professional as I can be both on and off the pitch.

“This group has a lot of quality in it so it’s a privilege when you are given the opportunity to wear the shirt.”

He continued: “The back four deserve a lot of credit for making it as easy as possible for me to settle back into the first team. We limited the chances at Crawley and Luton, which ultimately limited the amount of work I had to do during those two games.

“I can only thank Mark and Leon, the relationship we have is growing and I feel we are gelling week on week. We can only build on that and there’s a lot more to come from the whole group.”

“It is really nice to be back in the building, playing with the boys and experiencing the Abbey Stadium atmosphere again.”

Norris admits his frustration at not picking up the win against Hartlepool at the weekend, but is adamant focus should move on to another tricky Football League encounter this Saturday against Leyton Orient.

The 22-year old said: “We were nowhere near our best on Saturday and we’re desperate to raise it for this weekend.

“It is a sign of good team to not play at your maximum but come away with something from the game. We were disappointed not to play well but we’ll get straight back to work at improving this week.

“I was pleased from a personal perspective with the way I played, but it was gutting not to get the clean sheet and the win. In terms of what we take from that game, that’s what we have to focus on.”
