MATCH PREVIEW | BRADFORD CITY VS CAMBRIDGE UNITED | CHECKATRADE TROPHY

Cambridge United face their second Sky Bet League One opponent in a week, as they take on Bradford City in Round Two of the Checkatrade Trophy at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

The U’s head into the fixture on the back of a thumping victory over Coventry City at the Cambs Glass Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Luke Berry ensuring the U’s progression into the much anticipated Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Cup action continues this evening, with the U’s qualifying from Northern Group G of the Checkatrade Trophy after their wins over Shrewsbury Town and Middlesbrough U21s.

Shaun Derry’s men are in great form and go in search of their fourth consecutive win in West Yorkshire tonight.

Meanwhile, the Bantams have also enjoyed a strong start to the 2016/17 season and currently sit comfortably inside the Sky Bet League One Play-Off positions in fourth place.

Stuart McCall’s men overcame Morecambe, Bury and Stoke City U21s to secure a Second Round berth at home in the competition.

The fixture will see U’s Manager Shaun Derry re-united with former Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott who departed to join his ex-club in the summer.

The sides have not met since a 1-1 draw at Valley Parade back in the old Division Two in 1995. The U’s have won nine of their previous tussles against City, who themselves have picked up just five wins.

Looking ahead to the match, Derry said: “We want to win, that’s for sure. We want to go up to Bradford and we want to perform.

“I’ve made point that in those tough times earlier on and even in these good times now I think we just keep on that level.

“We’ve got to compete and concentrate and keep the drum banging and at this moment in time, it’s banging a nice tune.”

Tickets for the game will be available on the gate at the Northern Commercials Stadium.
