DERRY PROUD OF GALLANT U’S DISPLAY AGAINST WOLVES
Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry was thrilled with his side’s resolve and quality in last night’s EFL Cup clash with Wolves at Molineux.
Despite being knocked out of the competition, the U’s proved to be more than a match for their Championship opponents and the United boss disclosed is delight at the display.
He said: “We were looking for a performance with quality and one that showed an understanding of our game plan and we certainly produced that.
“If you were to ask the Wolves Manager if they had to work for the win, the answer would certainly be yes, which is pleasing.
“I’m very proud of the players for that performance, they were fantastic.
“The overall group performance level was far higher than we have seen all season, and within that there were some individual performances of a very high standard. Leon Legge at the back, Luke Berry in midfield and the front two of Medy Elito and Ben Williamson were all excellent.
“There are still some areas to work on and that’s where our focus will be, as we look ahead to Saturday.”
Attentions now turn to this weekend’s League Two tussle with Luton Town at the Cambs Glass Stadium, with Derry keen for the U’s to carry the momentum from the Wolves performance forward.
“We have to replicate that type of performance as we return to League action against Luton. We see that quality every day on the training field, and it’s important that we do begin to carry it into our matches.
“Saturday’s game gives us an opportunity to set some consistency in our performances, and we’ll look forward with confidence, as we always do.”
