DERRY LOOKING FOR U’S TO BE MORE RUTHLESS

POST-MATCH: SHAUN DERRY

Despite being pleased at improved performance levels from the U’s, Shaun Derry wants his side to be more ruthless with their opportunities going forward after last night’s Doncaster Rovers clash in Sky Bet League Two.

The U’s were defeated 1-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium, and were unable to carve out an equalising goal against the South Yorkshire outfit following John Marquis’ second half winner.

Commenting post-match, Shaun Derry said: “We asked for the performance levels to rise from Saturday and we saw an improvement in that regard against a tough Doncaster side tonight.

“Our energy levels were at a much better standard and as a result we gave a side who will looking to get promoted back to League One at the first time of asking, a good game.

“We held in the game well for long periods but we’re disappointed with the goal that we did concede.

“If we are to make a significant improvement then we have to become more ruthless in front of goal when the chances fall our way. We had a great opportunity at the end of the game where we should score and that would have lifted the whole group going into the next fixture against Carlisle United.

Discussing the start to the new season, Derry continued: “We’re three games into the season we’ve drawn one and lost two against tough opponents.

“Obviously we want to make big progress in that regard, but it’s a long season in which you won’t have your way all the time, and what we have to do is look forward to the next fixture.

“We’ll certainly be looking forward to Carlisle on Saturday, put all our energy and focuses into that and aim to grab what we can from that fixture.”
