DERRY: “NEWPORT PROVIDES US A DIFFERENT CHALLENGE”

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium, attentions of Manager Shaun Derry have quickly turned to this weekend’s clash with Newport County in Sky Bet League Two.

Having taken on three of the division’s top four in the last two weeks, the U’s boss is looking forward to a different type of challenge facing the U’s in south Wales on Saturday.

Derry said: “Newport brings us a different task this week and a different style of play to what we have faced in recent weeks.

“We have to make sure that one of our game plans is going to work and be effective in getting us the necessary points. We’ve been working on that since 5pm on Saturday.

“We’ll have to find a formula that will allow us to take the game to the opposition.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s proceedings at the Wham Stadium, Derry admitted to being slightly frustrating at not taking all the points with his side having produced an excellent team display.

He said: “There were major positives in Accrington and the game plan was executed superbly because we affected the opposition in the right way but we conceded a very poor goal in a period of the game where we were in control.

“I felt we controlled the game from start to finish so it was very disappointing not to come away with the three points. It was a real equipped team display for 99% of the match.”
