MONEY STATES IMPORTANCE OF ORIENT RESULT

U’s Manager says result was key

Cambridge United Manager Richard Money declared the importance of leaving the field with a result in the bag, following the U’s 1-1 home draw against League leaders Leyton Orient.

The men in Amber and Black produced a dogged display full of character to secure a point against the O’s, with Jacob Blyth opening the scoring for the home side before Jay Simpson levelled 17 minutes from time.

The United manager admitted improvements will need to be made in the coming games, but that the result provides a foundation from which to build from.

“It was important for the team and the supporters not to come off the pitch losing today,” said Money.

“We will take that as a positive but recognise that there are a lot of things that we need to do better

“It was a good goal to score and I thought there was some threatening moments in the first half that we can take confidence from.

“Although we gave possession away too easily, Orient didn’t really have too many sights on goal either in the second half.”

The U’s boss was also pleased to have been to give a number of players precious game time, during an injury ridden period for United.

“Conor [Newton] has got another 90 minutes under his belt, [Elliot] Omozusi also has a 90 minute game, Mickey Demetriou has another good performance and 90 minutes. These are a group of players have missed out on an awful lot of football.

“They just need games to get back to something near their best, which is very difficult at the minute.

“In a period where we have a whole catalogue of problems injury wise, we will just keep working as hard as we can and do the work we can do with the players we have available on the training pitch.”
