MONEY PRAISES DEFENCE FOR HATLEPOOL POINT

POST-MATCH REACTION FROM U'S BOSS

Richard Money praised the defensive display of the U’s, following a goalless Sky Bet League Two draw against Hartlepool United at Victoria Park yesterday afternoon.

Alongside Mark Roberts, Leon Legge and Josh Coulson, goalkeeper Chris Dunn also received plaudits from his manager for a clean sheet that led to back-to-back games unbeaten for the men in Amber and Black.

Money assessed the game as another important point gained, that keeps the U’s in contention through a difficult period in the season that has been marred by injury.

“Overall the back three and the goalkeeper were good and they earned us a point which keeps the scoreboard ticking over,” he said.

“We know exactly where we are as a team at the minute which is important for people to understand, because we’re trying to stay in contention as best we can.

“I thought we defended well enough throughout the ninety minutes, and until four or five of those players that started the game yesterday get a bit more game time and then a number of the players that are still missing are further on the road to recovery, we have to be patient.

“Overall I think it is a point gained, that keeps us close enough to the pack at the top end of the table where we want to be.”

The United boss felt that the successful return of striker Jordan Chiedozie from a loan spell at Braintree Town in yesterday’s encounter in the north east was one of a number of “bright” aspects his side will carry onto the training field.

The youngster was introduced to proceedings during the second half by Money, who felt the 21-year old gave a positive account of himself, commenting: “I had the opportunity to give Jordan Chiedozie some minutes on the pitch which was crucial and he looked very bright and lively during the time he spent on the pitch, which is good.

“There were certainly one or two more bright positives that we could also take from the game into the coming weeks’ training.

“We’ll get more work into those players that need it and go again next weekend against Stevenage at home.”
