CORR ON START TO THE 2015/16 SEASON
U’s striker Barry Corr is pleased to have hit the ground running at the Abbey Stadium and following a return to action last week is keen to continue his early season form.
The United marksmen was back in action last weekend following a disrupted start to the season, which had seen his Cambridge career set off at a blistering pace, registering five goals in three appearances for the Amber and Black outfit.
Speaking to Cambridge-United.co.uk, Corr felt a number of factors had contributed towards his prolific start including the work of his team mates around him and a desire to showcase his abilities to the Amber Army.
“You obviously want to make a good impression when you join the club, playing in front of new fans and show them what you are capable of”, he said.
“The goals are a reflection on my team mates as well. I’m not the sort of players goes and beats three opponents before scoring a goal, I score goals from the service that I get. The team mates around have been a different class for me.
“The manager has brought me here because I fit into the system that he plays, so I think all of those things have come together to help me have a good start.”
Corr admits some of the difficulties in remaining patient when carrying an injury but states he’s hungry to continue where he left off now the Irishman is back to fitness.
“It was great to be back in action last weekend and it was a bad time to pick up the injury which was disappointing. It’s better now and I’m keen to get back into the work and look forward to Saturday.
“I was desperate to carry on playing but you have to be smart with injuries, and although it was never going to be serious if I played too early that would have only kept me out for longer.
“I feel like we’ve done the right thing and I’ve worked hard in the gym while I’ve been away, and as I say it is better now so I can get excited by the upcoming games.”
Looking ahead to the clash with League Two leaders Leyton Orient this weekend, the 30-year old says it will be another stern test for the U’s but a game that naturally gets the adrenaline pumping.
“Leyton Orient are a really good side and have some great players but these are the games that I look forward to as a player.
“They were beaten by Exeter last week and I was actually a little disappointed with that result as I wanted to be in the first team to beat them this season.
“We all know it will be a difficult game and we’re all really excited.”
