MONEY REFLECTS ON TIGHT EXETER CLASH

U’S ON THE WRONG SIDE OF SMALL DETAILS IN THE MATCH WITH EXETER

Manager Richard Money feels the U’s were on the wrong side of the finer details at crucial points in last night’s 1-0 defeat with Exeter City, in a game that could have finished either way.

Despite a huge effort from the U’s to level the game, Exeter proved to be too strong defensively with the rub of the green not quite falling the way of United on the night.

Speaking post-match Money commented: “In tight games like that, you have make sure that the small details are performed better because if they are not then you come out on the wrong side of a 1-0 score line when it could have been 1-0 the other way.

“I felt we certainly forced the issue and gave it a real good fist in the second half, and on another day perhaps something drops for you which makes the score line different.”

He added: “I thought both teams were a little bit anxious in the game if I’m honest and it was a little different to the game we had here last year.

“From their point of view I could understand that they wanted to turn us around rather than play the football that they normally do. Exeter were very aggressive in the press and worked us hard which made life very difficult to move the ball.”

The U’s now have two days to re-group in the West country ahead of Saturday’s fixture with Yeovil Town at Huish Park, and Money says his side must take full advantage of the time together in order to produce the right performance this weekend.

“The long trip down here was always going to give me an opportunity to talk individually with one or two. It still doesn’t give us a chance to do the team building we would like to do because five or six are still injured and are back at home.

“But we need to use the two days as beneficially as we can and re-group quickly. We’ll think about the game because I certainly felt we worked hard enough to get the game back but just didn’t produce enough quality at the times when we needed it.

“You have to be able to be forceful but produce the right quality at the right time which we didn’t do often enough. So we’ll look to improve on that.

“We have to pick ourselves up quickly now to make sure you perform in a way at Yeovil that is going to get us the three points.”
