SUPPORT THE NCS SOCIAL ACTION PROJECTS
Two groups of youngsters affiliated with the Cambridge United NCS programme have this week launched social action projects to promote respectful behaviour in and around football stadiums, with supporters able to vote for the #Behave4Bez and #Respect4Robbo campaigns on Twitter.
National Citizen Service (NCS) is a way for 15- to 17-year-olds living in England and Northern Ireland to make extraordinary friendships, learn important life skills and create unforgettable memories. The government initiative delivered by Cambridge United Community Trust aims at boosting participants’ personal and social development through three phases: Adventure, Future and Making a Difference.
Following the recent outward bound trip to Kingswood outdoor centre in Sheffield, participants have since undertaken work towards delivering a social action project that gives them the opportunity to make a direct impact in the local community.
Having deliberated about what area they could potentially impact, the Autumn cohort who all possess an interest in sport and have recently taken part in a workshop with local Police Officer Russ Figgis about the safety aspect at football stadiums, decided to look at improving behaviour around grounds to create a positive family friendly environment.
The autumn cohort were split into two groups and have created competing campaigns, selecting Cambridge United first team players Mark Roberts and Luke Berry as the project ambassadors. The two groups of participants have created following campaigns.
Behave 4 Bez - Raising awareness about correct use of language, drinking responsibly and not littering around the ground. This projects main focus is about creating the right actions from supporters inside the ground.
Respect 4 Robbo - Raising awareness about respect, and making sure the experience is positive for all when coming to the Abbey Stadium, and wanting to create a vibrant atmosphere that. We want to promote respect for all players, managers, officials and opposing fans. This project is about creating/sustaining a culture of respect within the club that everyone can appreciate.
The two groups will be attending Saturday's fixture with Notts County [Sponsored by Fujitsu] to promote their respective campaigns.
Cambridge United supporters can now help to support the participant’s campaigns via Twitter by posting either the hashtag #Behave4Bez or #Respect4Robbo, depending on which campaign they believe to have the biggest impact.
The deadline for voting closes on Monday 30th November at 5pm, so be sure to register your support before then!
