CAMBRIDGE UNITED COMPLETE GAYLE LOAN DEAL

Cameron Gayle joins United on Loan

Cambridge United have today completed the loan signing of Oxford United defender Cameron Gayle on a loan deal until January.

The 22-year old who plays predominantly at right back but is also capable of fulfilling a centre-back role, will join Shaun Derry’s side from the Kassam Stadium ahead of this evening’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Morecambe.

Previous to his current contract at Oxford, Gayle turned professional with West Bromwich Albion in 2012, enjoyed loan spells in Iceland and at Shrewsbury Town where he made his Football League debut before signing a permanent deal at the New Meadow in 2014.

Gayle made 28 appearances in League Two last season for the Shrews, and offers Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry cover across several positions in defence.

Derry commented: “Cameron is another loan signing who will add healthy competition to our side, particularly in the full back positions.

“It is important that every player we bring to this club on loan makes us better, and can help us with our progression.

“I’m sure Cameron is capable of doing that, as he is a dynamic player who likes to get forward. He was part of a successful squad last season at Shrewsbury, and has settled in well at Oxford so is therefore trusted at one of the best clubs in this League.”
