Dave Doggett wins award for Outstanding Contribution
CAMBRIDGE United chairman, Dave Doggett, last night won the Medimmune Award for Outstanding Contribution at the Cambridge News Business Excellence Awards. The U's chairman was accompanied by chief executive, Jez George, for the event held at King's College Cambridge.
Discussing his award, Doggett said: "I was delighted to accept the Medimmune Award for Outstanding Contribution on behalf of the Football Club last night. It is also great achievement for two of our main partners, Sepura and Mick George, who picked up the TWI Award for Technology Export and Business Growth Awards respectively.
Dave continued: "The underlying philosophy of the club is to be at the heart of the community. During the last five years, the Community Trust under Jez's leadership has expanded with no external funding and is now working in 50 schools and coaching over 1,500 young talented footballers every week. This has been achieved despite having limited facilities at the R Costings Abbey Stadium and at our training ground, having to rely on hiring facilities throughout the county.
The Chairman also reflected on the clubs progress on the pitch: "During the last twelve months the first-team, led by Richard Money, has achieved it's first national trophy victory and promotion to the Football League through the play-off's at Wembley Stadium. The club is now financially stable and this has been helped by growing partnerships with local and national companies. The recent FA Cup adventure against Manchester United captured the imagination of the people of Cambridgeshire and made our supporters proud once again of our club.
Dave concluded by outlining how Cambridge United can continue to progress: "The next step for Cambridge United is to work with our landlords, Grosvenor, and local councils to develop sporting facilities for the community and a modern stadium so that we can continue to expand our work in the community and encourage more families and sponsors to come and support us in our work."
