U's fan victim of unprovoked attack
CAMBRIDGE United Football Club are deeply saddened to hear about the unprovoked attack which has left a 41-year-old U's fan fighting for his life.
U's Chairman, Dave Doggett, said: "The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Cambridge United are with Simon and his family and friends."
Simon Dobbin was walking to Prittlewell Train Station with his friend and a small group of fellow United fans after watching the rugby in a pub following the U's 0-0 draw at Southend on Saturday.
The U's fans made the 500m walk to Prittlewell Station but were attacked as they made their way down towards the platform.
Simon remains in Southend University Hospital, in a critical condition.
A fundraising page has been set up by Simon's friends to help with accommodation and travel costs for Simon's family, click here to visit the page.
The Half Moon public house in Mildenhall and Cambridge Floral Designs on Milton Road are also collecting on behalf of Simon and his family.
