Romsey Mill youth club enjoy historic Cup match
As part of its partnership with local charity Romsey Mill, Cambridge United Community Trust provided tickets for the Manchester United FA Cup match to a group who regularly attend Tuesday evening youth sessions.
Jon Sanders, Youth Development Worker at the Mill, said: “Romsey Mill are really grateful to Cambridge United Community Trust for donating some tickets for the match last Friday! This meant we could take a group of lads from the local community who attend youth clubs and football projects that we run. We felt very privileged to be there and the lads absolutely loved it and were buzzing! It was a great evening that the lads will never forget. We're really excited about the developing partnership between Romsey Mill and Cambridge United, and how we can work together to support young people in Cambridge.”
Community Trust Manager, Danny Kerrigan, said: “We have to thank the Club for giving us access to these tickets, which allowed some people to come to the game who probably wouldn’t have been able to attend otherwise. Romsey Mill are an important partner who do great work in the local community. Donating tickets for the Manchester United match is a gesture to recognise this, whilst also rewarding the lads who attend their clubs and projects. We will continue to work together going forwards, as there is extensive overlap with our key objectives: education, health and well-being, social inclusion and sports participation.”
This is the second initiative from the Community Trust to involve stakeholders in the local area in the Manchester United match; Abbey Meadows and Fen Ditton Primary Schools were each given a mascot package, so a pupil from each school could have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Amy Ganderton, Community Development Manager said: “They were taken into the changing rooms and got to go on to the pitch for a kick-around while the players were warming up. Then they walked out with both teams and shook hands. Hopefully it is an experience they will treasure for a long time.”
