Jordan Slew joins United on 18 month contract
CAMBRIDGE United are delighted to confirm the signing of Jordan Slew.
The 22-year-old striker joins the U's on an eighteen month deal after terminating his contract with Blackburn Rovers on the last day of the transfer window in February this year.
Jordan began his footballing career at Sheffield United, progressing through the Blades' academy before making his first-team début in October 2010 at the age of 18.
He began the 2011/12 season at Sheffield United before Blackburn Rovers swooped for his services on August transfer deadline day, paying a transfer fee of £1.1 million for the Yorkshireman.
Slew's Blackburn debut came in December 2011, replacing Yakubu as an 89th minute substitute during Rovers 3-2 win over Manchester United.
Jordan then joined Stevenage on loan, before spells with Oldham, Rotherham and Ross County.
The striker began the 2014/15 season on loan at Port Vale, scoring twice in nine appearances before returning to Ewood Park in January.
Commenting on the signing, U's Chief Executive, Jez George, said: "Jordan has some fantastic attributes and a fantastic pedigree. Obviously his career has not progressed in the way he would have wanted since joining Blackburn for such a big fee at such a young age and he is yet to realise his potential. Our club is all about developing talented young players though, so this signing is really exciting. We believe that we can be good for each other. Jordan will excite our supporters with his pace and power, while adding to the attacking options at Richard's disposal. Hopefully he will experience a full house on Saturday and a taste of the atmosphere that had become synonymous with the R Costings Abbey Stadium."
Jordan will wear number 9 and is available for selection when the U's host Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow afternoon.
A large crowd is anticipated tomorrow afternoon and supporters are advised to purchase their tickets in advance by clicking here.
