Doncaster Rovers Match Day Programme Preview
Read a sneak preview at the main feature article with Cambridge United loanee Ryan Ledson in tomorrow’s Emirates FA Cup special edition of the match day programme.
The 18-year old reveals his hunger to test himself in the Football League during his time with the U’s and discusses how he has settled in at the Abbey Stadium.
Take a sneak peek here:
The Everton midfielder is currently on loan at the Abbey Stadium until January and has already produced a string of exciting performances which have helped guide the U’s towards back-to-back wins in recent weeks.
Having been snapped up by the Toffees at the age of just five years old and gone on to represent the Merseyside club at every age level, Ledson is now enjoying his latest challenge with Cambridge United as he takes his first steps in the Football League.
“League Two is physically tough. You fight for everything to get the three points which is what it is all about. I think in the Under 21s, it takes you to a certain stage but you need to go out and test yourself in men’s football and that is what I want to do here at Cambridge.
“I was spotted by Everton at a training camp when I was five and they asked my Mum or my Dad if I would go back down to train. So I went back down to training and I have never been at another club since.
“I’ve played in every age group for Everton and over 30 times now for England, and I think the experience of those European competitions and playing against the best young players around the world has really helped. I’m still only young, 18, so to have that under my belt already is good.”
He added: “But I want to get as many games as I can while I’m here in Cambridge and make the most of my time so that when I go back to Everton I have even more experience.
“I came to the club before the Accrington game and we have gone pretty well since then. We have lost one game but won two, and I think we look like a strong side at the moment. I’m really happy with how I have settled in and all the lads have been brilliant. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks.”
Also in this weekend’s Emirates FA Cup edition are columns with Chairman Dave Doggett, Manager Shaun Derry and Chief Executive Jez George. Junior supporters can take on the Emirates FA Cup adventure pack whilst the programme also contains the usual 100 Years of Coconuts features, facts & figures and news from around the club, all for just £3!
