LEGGE: “DONCASTER A GOOD CHANCE TO TEST OURSELVES”

Leon Legge ahead of Emirates FA Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers

Cambridge United defender Leon Legge discusses the U’s recent form and the upcoming Emirates FA Cup game with Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

The 30-year old believes the atmosphere around the club has changed after back to back wins and a recent upturn in fortunes will give the U’s a good opportunity of causing an upset this weekend.

The former Brentford man said: “The two wins puts us in good stead for this weekend and the dressing room is buzzing at the moment. We have scored some good goals and anything can happen this weekend.

“It will be good to put the League aside for a week and concentrate on the FA Cup. Everyone knows what the FA Cup is about and we will be classed as underdogs this weekend but you never know what can happen.

“Obviously we are playing a League One side and it is a good opportunity to test ourselves against a team like Doncaster Rovers, something we are all massively looking forward to.”

Legge has been pleased to have already contributed in front of goal this season, scoring three times, but states his focus remains on keeping clean sheets.

He said: “I am happy to be scoring goals. Somebody set me the target of 10 goals this season but the last time I did that was about six years ago at Tonbridge.

“I have always said as a centre half if I can get five in a season I will be happy but as I am on three at the moment and it’s still quite early in the season, we will see where I can get to.”

Legge continued: “We are working with the defence regularly to make sure we are keeping clean sheets. In certain games you have to go to places and win 1-0 and it’s a long old season so we have to make sure we are doing the right things defensively as well as offensively.”

The central defender says the U’s are focussed on rewarding the fans for their unbelievable support during the campaign to date and added: “The fans have been excellent all season especially the ones that have travelled away to places like Morecambe on a Tuesday night.

“I’m not sure I could have done what they have done travelling wise, so it is now time to start giving them something back with performances and results.”

Shaun Derry’s men will be in action at the Abbey Stadium this Sunday for an Emirates FA Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers. Tickets are still available online and will also be on sale in the ticket office right up until kick off.
