INTERVIEW: MARK ROBERTS
Cambridge United captain Mark Roberts says that confidence is high as the U’s approach a busy Christmas schedule of fixtures.
United travel to Dagenham & Redbridge on Boxing Day before a quick turnaround in games with a return to the Abbey Stadium a week today against Barnet and Roberts feels the U’s will relish the challenge with spirits in good shape amongst the first team.
He said: “The confidence is high and we go into the Christmas fixture list in great form.
“We were slightly disappointed not to have got all three points against Mansfield, because we wanted to give the fans an early Christmas present with three points but we also know how hard we worked for the point.
“It was a battle and we expected that because they are one of the top sides in the League as the table shows. I felt we acquitted ourselves well and the conditions were difficult which meant that it wasn’t free-flowing football, but we dug in and deserved a point.
“Against Plymouth it was similar conditions but we played very well against the wind and took ourselves to them in that game.”
He continued: “We found ourselves one nil down which was disappointing, especially with the manner of the goal which could have been prevented, but we rolled our sleeves up and got back into the game.
“Coming into the break at half time we should have probably been leading the match. The Manager touched upon that and we need to develop a ruthless side and a killer instinct at both ends of the field.”
