Post-match reaction from Cambridge United Manager
Cambridge United Manager Richard Money assessed his side’s performance as “resilient” after a goalless draw with Barnet FC at the Hive Stadium.
The U’s produced a dogged display to ensure that they left the capital with a vital point and their unbeaten away record in Sky Bet League Two this season intact, which the United boss reflected on positively.
“We certainly showed some resilience,” said Money.
“First half I thought we played well enough and on another day could have come in 1-0 up, but in the second half they really pushed up from the back and squeezed the life out of us. That made it difficult to get the ball moving like we had during the first 45 minutes.
“We stayed in the game and might have even pinched it right at the death. Sometimes you have to come off the pitch and say that’s a good point, because the way that Barnet pushed us meant it could have been a different story.
“When you walk off the pitch with a result like we had last week, it’s important you make the right steps in the right direction so to make a clean sheet is the first step in getting that back.
He added: “The DNA of any good team in this League is that your bare minimum is that you work hard. The next stage of that is that your organisation is good and you’re difficult to beat. We were probably a bit more difficult to beat this afternoon than we have been, certainly in comparison to last week.
“Eight goals against us in the first four games is not what we wanted and not what we expected. That is a second clean sheet in five games which is small steps back to where we want to be. There is a long way to go and a lot of work to be done.
Meanwhile the Money also had a message for the Amber Army, with over 600 Cambridge United supporters making the trip to the Hive to support his side.
“The supporters were absolutely excellent today and I would just say to them, we know we are not where we need to be at the minute but stick with us and help us find our rhythm and intensity in our play that we are searching for.
“The next game is Dagenham and that will give us a chance to build momentum again.
“The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is a competition that I think we should look to do well in, that will reflect on the team that we pick.”
Tickets are available online now for the U’s next two fixtures at the Abbey Stadium against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night and Luton Town when United return to League action a week today.
