INJURY UPDATE: BERRY AND SIMPSON

Update from Greg Reid on Luke Berry and Robbie Simpson

Cambridge United Head Physiotherapist Greg Reid gives clarity on the Luke Berry and Robbie Simpson situations, following Saturday’s final friendly against Peterborough United at the ABAX Stadium.

Berry was forced to leave the field after a clash of heads nine minutes into the fixture, whilst Simpson was stretchered off with a worrying looking leg injury during the early stages of the second half.

Reid explains that the initial signs indicate that neither are as bad as first feared, he states: “Luke Berry was removed from the field of play with blood coming from one of his ears and following assessment by the attending Peterborough United Team Doctor he was transported to Peterborough & District hospital where he underwent a barrage of tests including a CT scan.

“We are pleased to report that the CT scan confirmed that Luke has not sustained any fracture and the blood coming from his ear was due to a laceration in his ear canal.

“Luke has sustained a concussion however, and his return to training and match play will be overseen by the Club`s medical department in accordance with the latest guidelines for the management of concussion in sport.”

He continued: “Robbie Simpson`s ankle was immobilised in a splint and he was transported from the field on a stretcher in accordance with best practice guidelines.

“The full nature of the injury will be established in the next 24 hours but at this stage the club is cautiously optimistic that the injury isn't as serious as first feared.

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to the medical team and Team Doctor at Peterborough United for the help and care they provided to both Luke and Robbie.”
