U's defeated at the Kassam
CAMBRIDGE United tasted defeat on the road for the final time this seaosn, going down 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford United.
An early scare almost saw the hosts, unbeaten in their last six, take the lead after a long ball over the top saw Dany Hylton through one-on-one, however Will Norris was off his line quickly to thwart the prolific front-man.
Hylton again came close on six minutes, he capitalised on a loose ball only to fire wide of Norris' goal.
The U's began to impose themselves on the game and Sullay Kaikai almost gave United the lead on 25 after being played in by Morrissey. The Palace loanee's fierce strike was deflected inches wide of Jamie Ashdown's goal.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock on 31, Kemar Roofe bending his shot around Will Norris from the edge of the U's box after a decent spell of pressure.
Oxford's advantage was doubled in the sixth minute of first-half stopage time and it was Hylton who nodded the hosts two in front from a corner.
HT: Oxford 2-0 U's
Oxford almost increased their lead immediately after the restart, Hylton's goal-bound strike blocked well by half-time substitute Richard Tait. United were in trouble again on 50, Coulson and Taylor managing to hook the ball off the line after more good play from the hosts.
The U's struggled to test Ashdown in the Oxford goal and it was the hosts who were forging the best chances. Alex Macdonald was unfortunate not to have made it three on 75, his drilled effort rebounding off the under-side of Norris' bar and was eventually cleared.
United forced a couple of late corners but were unable to find the back of Ashdown's net.
