U's sign Tom Naylor on one-month loan
CAMBRIDGE United have completed the one month loan signing of Tom Naylor from Derby County.
Naylor, 23, began his career at Mansfield Town before joning the Rams in January 2012 after an inital loan spell at Pride Park.
Tom joined Bradford City on loan at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, before heading to Grimsby Town for the remainder of the season.
The 2013/14 season saw the midfielder join Newport County until January with the Exiles extending his spell at Rodney Parade until the end of the season.
Commenting on the signing, Director of Football, Jez George, said: “On Tuesday we received the news that Liam Hughes is going to be at out of action for at least another 3-4 weeks after an MRI scan revealed a second fracture. With Tom Champion and Luke Chadwick already ruled out through injury, we’ve decided that we need to add another midfielder to the group.
“Tom fits the bill perfectly; he started his career as a centre half but has developed into a midfielder at Derby County. We think that's his best position and so does he. Tom’s played a number of Football League games, he has the attributes that we were looking for and he’s been really keen to come here. We are delighted to have signed him for the next month."
Jez concluded: “We’re extremely grateful to Derby County for helping us make the move happen.”
At the same time, midfielder Sam Whittall has joined Brackley on a youth loan, which will still enable him to be available for our development games. Striker, Ayrton Bevins, has joined Bury Town on a similar arrangement.
