United denied three points on the road

A late Robbie Wilmott strike ensured that Newport County gained a point against ten-man United at Rodney Parade this evening.

The hosts had the best chances of the first-half, Aaron O'Conner heading over the bar and Lee Minshull forcing Chris Dunn into a fine diving save down to his left.

Liam Hughes came closest for United, heading into Joe Day's hands from Ryan Donaldson's free-kick

Luke Chadwick's introduction at half-time paid dividends, he fired low past Day to put the U's 1-0 up on 48 minutes.

As the hosts looked for an equaliser, Robbie Wilmott fired just wide of Chris Dunn's post on 55 minutes before Mark Byrne rattled Dunn's crossbar on 67 minutes.

After making three subsitutions, the U's had to play out the last ten minutes with ten men,  Liam Hughes leaving the pitch with suspected wrist damage.

United however couldn't hold out for all three points, Robbie Willmott fired in from close range in the 90th minute after a swift counter attack from the Exiles.
