BURTON 1-3 CAMBRIDGE

United pick up all three points at Burton Albion

A Tom Elliott brace and a goal from Ryan Donaldson secured three points for United this evening.

Liam Hughes returned to the U's starting line-up, after recovering from the broken wrist he suffered during the 1-1 draw at Newport County.

United were on top during the opening exchanges, Tom Elliott and Harrison Dunk both forcing Jon McLaughlin into comfortable saves.

As the hosts came into the game, Adam McGurk fired wide on 19 minutes and Lucas Akins forced Chris Dunn into a fine save on 23 minutes.

United broke the deadlock through Tom Elliott on 35 minutes, he towered above the Brewers' defence to head home Harrison Dunk's teasing cross.

The hosts came close to a leveller just before the break, Robbie Weir heading wide with five minutes of the half remaining.

The hosts were on top of proceedings at the start of the second period.  Chris Dunn was forced into another excellent stop, before substitute Jacob Blyth skewed his attempt wide of goal.

United were two up on 64 minutes.  Harrsion Dunk once again the provider, this time for Ryan Donaldson, he cooly finished from Dunk's low delivery into the six-yard box.

The U's made it 3-0 on 76. Tom Elliott scored his second of the night after Kwesi Appiah teed him up with a perfectly weighted through ball.

Albion pulled a goal back through Lucas Akins on 82 minutes, but that was too little, too late for the League Two leaders.
