U's to auction match shirts, donate to Children in Need and support Arthur Rank.
CAMBRIDGE United are holding a seven day charity auction of match shirts from Saturday's FA Cup first round win against Fleetwood Town.
The shirts, which have a commemorative poppy on the chest, will be available to bid on by clicking here.
All proceeds of the auctions will go to the Royal British Legion and Cambridge United Community Trust.
U's chief executive, Jez George, said: "The club wants to play a central role in the community by helping to support worthy causes. With the commemorative shirts that were worn on Saturday, it's a perfect opportunity to support the Royal British Legion and raise funds for our Community Trust to deliver charitable projects throughout Cambridgeshire."
Friday's golden gamble draw against Northampton Town will see Cambridge United donate all proceeds of the draw to Children in Need. The U's will be donating the first prize for the draw - A hospitality package for five people when the U's face Southend on Boxing Day. Commenting on the donation, Jez George said: "Children in Need is a charity that reflects the ethos of our Football Club and Community Trust and the work that we do with children in the community around Cambridgeshire. It’s another chance for us to show our support to an extremely worthy cause”
The club will also be supporting another fantastic charity. Before Friday night's game, the Quy Mill Hotel Team will be out in force selling raffle tickets, raising money for the exceptional work of Arthur Rank to aid in building a much needed new hospice in the City. Arthur Rank Hospice is dedicated to providing specialist palliative care and support to adult patients and their family, friends and carers. Quy Mill's Lucy Ward said:" They work extremely hard and touch so many people in the community we are delighted to be supporting them, and hope as many of you can support us to raise as much money as possible."
U's Community Trust manager, Danny Kerrigan said: “These initiatives will mean that the Trust, with the support of the Club, will be helping to raise money for three charities within the course of one week. It is especially pleasing that these charities have such different aims and objectives, and we are proud of our partnership with each.”
