Barnes-Homer Signs For The U's

Matthew Barnes-Homer joins the U's

CAMBRIDGE United have signed Matthew Barnes-Homer on a short term contract until the end of the season with the option for a further 12 months.

Barnes-Homer joins the U's on a free transfer from Skrill Premier rivals Forest Green Rovers, where he has scored five goals in 18 appearances this season.

The 27-year-old spent two and a half seasons at Kidderminster, scoring 35 goals in 100 appearances for the Harriers.

In January 2010, U's Head Coach, Richard Money, signed Barnes-Homer for Luton Town and he ended the 2010-11 season as the Hatters' top scorer, netting 19 goals.

While at Luton, Barnes-Homer had a spell on loan at Rochdale during the 2011-12 season, before leaving the Hatters and joining Swedish side Ostersunds FK for the remainder of the season.

The striker spent the 2012-13 season with Macclesfield Town, scoring 21 goals in all competitions for the Silkmen.

Matthew Barnes-Homer will wear number 39 for the U's.

Director of Football Jez George stated: “Matthew has shown huge desire to join us and has put his football ambitions ahead of financial considerations.  The opportunity to work again with Richard (Money, Head Coach) was a key factor as well as the club’s position in the league and our aims for the remainder of the season.  It is very difficult to sign proven goalscorers like Matthew in January without spending huge amounts of money, so we are absolutely delighted with this deal.”
