Gearóid Morrissey to join the U's in January
CAMBRIDGE United can confirm that Gearóid Morrissey will join the Club at the beginning of the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old midfielder will join the U's from Irish Premier Division side, Cork City, on 3rd January 2015.
Morrissey joined Cork as a youngster before heading across to England, joining Blackburn Rovers' academy as a scholar in 2008.
Gearóid returned to his hometown of Cork in 2010, helping the Leesiders gain promotion to the Irish Premier League.
The last three seasons have seen Morrissey feature over 75 times for City in the Irish Premier League and helped them come so close to winning the title this year.
Morrissey has also represented the Republic of Ireland at U17 and U19 levels.
U’s Chief Executive, Jez George, said: “Gearoid is a really talented footballer who first came to our attention last season. We've tracked him for over 12 months and have watched him on several occasions. There has been some issues to resolve with Cork City which have delayed this announcement, but we are now extremely happy to have completed the signing. Gearoid has great potential, with a number of excellent qualities, and we are excited to bring him to the club."
