Abbey Helpers ready to welcome fans to the Football League
PURPLE will once again be a welcoming colour at the R Costings Abbey Stadium this season, as the Abbey Helpers in their distinctive HERE TO HELP purple tops greet and assist fans arriving for Cambridge United matches.
Inspired by the London 2012 Games Makers, the Abbey Helpers are a team of enthusiastic and happy volunteers who are the first point of contact with fans as they arrive at the ground. During an unforgettable 2013/14 season, they helped create a warm and friendly atmosphere for all spectators, changing and enhancing the spectator experience on match days.
The Abbey helper scheme is a joint venture between Cambridge United and Cambridge Fans United. Cambridge United are continuously looking at ways to improve supporters experiences at the R Costings Abbey Stadium, whether they are attending their first match or if they are lifetime fans and season ticket holders.
Cambridge United believe that it is important to make all supporters feel valued and looked after. By doing this we hope the club will have the opportunity to welcome them back many times in the future.
It is the interaction with fans that makes being an Abbey Helper really rewarding and enjoyable. Abbey Helper Tim Pomfret explains “It is a great buzz when new supporters, requiring assistance, comment on how nice it is to be greeted by a helpful, smiling and friendly face"
The success of the Abbey Helper scheme and Cambridge United’s promotion to Sky Bet League 2 means that more volunteers are currently being recruited.
Abbey Helpers do not have to be football fans, they might be just interested in local volunteering or looking to gain customer service work experience.
