#Mission676

26 Marathons in 26 days

Director of Football, Jez George, is set to walk 676 miles – a marathon a day for 26 days - starting on April 27th from  Newcastle United and finishing on 23rd May at Norwich City via every Premier League stadium in the country, ending with a Fundraising Gala Dinner in Cambridge.

Despite the lack of funding and against all the odds, the Cambridge United has developed a Youth Scheme over the last eight years that now punches way above its weight.  The young U’s sides, from Under 9's to Under 16's, play every week against top academies in the country, including the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City.

The club created a Community Trust three years ago to replicate the status and reputation of the Youth Development Scheme and implement Cambridge United's vision of the club being at the centre of the community.

Since 2011 the Community Trust has impacted on thousands of youngsters but there is so much more that can be done and so much more the club wants to do.

Now, after the club's magnificent win at Wembley to win our first ever national cup competition, is the perfect time to capitalise on this on field success and use it as a springboard to really make a difference in our community.

The aim of #Mission676 is to give the club a financial platform to make a real impact in the community.

This club, through the community trust, can affect as many people with practical initiatives through sport, recreation and education in 2014/15 and beyond as witnessed our FA Trophy win at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.   We are asking fans to think for a moment about those less fortunate than us.  To think of those citizens within our community, within our city, who weren't able to enjoy those memorable scenes.  To think about how we could help them.

If every U’s fan who went to Wembley donates 1p per mile - £6.76 - the Community Trust can raise £100,000 to deliver projects and initiatives in the community.  We are also aiming at 26 businesses to raise another £100,000 through Corporate and Social Responsibility donations.  Then we would be creating a real legacy for our FA Trophy victory.  And something that can give you as much pride as the team winning on Sunday.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
