Kwesi Appiah joins on a one month loan
Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of Crystal Palace striker, Kwesi Appiah, on a one month loan.
23 year old Kwesi shot to prominence with Margate in the Ryman Premier League, scoring 35 goals in 34 games for the Kent side in the 2011-12 Season.
His performances caught the attention of a number of Football League clubs, with Kwesi opting to sign for Crystal Palace in January 2012.
The striker spent one month on loan at Yeovil Town in January 2013. Appiah made five appearances for the Eagles last season in the Championship and has made one appearance this season against Bristol City in the Capital One Cup (Pictured Below).
Director of Football, Jez George, commented on the U's new Striker:
"We are absolutely delighted to be able to sign a player of Kwesi's ability. It's unusual for us to be able to bring in a senior player from a Premier League club, but it is great testament to our Football Department that a player of his quality has agreed to join us. With Tom Elliott and Delano Sam-Yorke having missed the last few weeks through injury and still not fully fit, plus such a busy schedule in the next 15 days, it was crucial that we added some firepower to the squad."
George also confirmed that the U's have known about the striker for some time:
"We watched Kwesi when he was at Margate, Richard (Money, Head Coach) and Ben (Strang, Chief Scout) saw him play for Crystal Palace Under 21's at the end of last season, so we know all about his strengths. As soon as we knew of his availability we worked really hard and quickly to make it happen. His profile fits exactly what we are looking for at the moment."
Kwesi will wear the number 21 shirt and the U's faithful will have their first chance to see him in action tomorrow, as he is immediately added to the squad to face Gateshead at the R Costings Abbey Stadium.
