Cambridge United secured a 1-0 win at Grimsby Town this evening.

The first half saw chances limited for both sides, Appiah, Cunnington and Hughes coming close for the U's, while Chris Maxwell saved well from Grimsby's Liam Hearn.

HT 0-0

The second half began with United looking to force the issue, Harrison Dunk and Kwesi Appiah both came close for the U's, as did Ian Miller.  The only goal of the game on the 68th minute when Josh Coulson's header was saved at point blank range by McKeown in the Grimsby goal, but Adam Cunnington was first to the rebound and rifled home in front of the magnificent U's support.

Just three minutes later, Grimsby had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot after Ian Miller was adjudged to have brought down John-Lewis inside the penalty area.  John-Lewis took the kick himself, but was denied by a superb save from Chris Maxwell, diving to his left to tip the ball wide of the post.

Shortly after, Maxwell was forced into another acrobatic save, tipping another John-Lewis effort over the bar.

Kwesi Appiah had two late chances to seal the win for the U's, both ending up just wide of the mark.
