Plan B Unveiled - Grosvenor

Cambridge United's landlords, Grosvenor, have set out an alternative plan to deliver a Community Stadium, brand new facilities for the Cambridge United Youth and Community Trust and a new training ground for the U's.

The plan would put the club on a stable financial footing as well as meeting Cambridge's identified need for new sporting facilities.

Plan A, a Community Stadium and Sporting Village in Trumpington is still on the table, however Plan B would also create new revenue streams for the Club as plans for a revitalised Abbey Stadium could include a new bar, club shop and catering facilities, as well as increasing the capacity and creating opportunities for increased community use.

The Cambridge Sporting Village in Trumpington would be a vibrant hub for sports, training, education, health, recreation, open green space and new homes, including:

• A BMX Track, leisure circuit and trim trail
• Hockey pitches (synthetic and turf)
• Football pitches
• Outdoor Velodrome
• Sports Hall including indoor pitch, restaurant/café, an indoor climbing wall and gym
• A pavilion supporting the hockey pitches
• Sports boulevard
• Trumpington Country Park
• Potential site for an ice rink

The two sites would be run by a Cambridge Community Sporting Trust which would hold long leases at both sites and be non-profit making. Cambridge United would have an occupational lease at the Cambridge Community Stadium and a significantly reduced rent to pay.

Grosvenor now want to see which of the two options local people prefer.
