U's pick up win on the road
Cambridge United picked up their first win in five matches with a 2-1 victory at in-form Tamworth.
The U’s went ahead early on through Tom Elliott’s headed effort from a Charlie Wassmer cross and took their deserved lead into the halftime interval.
In the 63rd minute the lead was doubled when Michael Gash converted from the penalty spot after the impressive Elliott was clipped inside the area.
The home side were reduced to ten men with around 20 minutes to play, substitute Lee Hendrie being dismissed for a push in the direction of Tom Shaw’s face.
Things weren’t always straightforward for the visitors and Adam Cunnington smashed home a free kick in the 89th minute to set up a nervy finale.
However, Richard Money’s men saw out the final few minutes to secure a morale-boosting victory.
