Cambs FA Discipline Manager Praises U's
Cambridge United's disciplinary record has been highlighted by Cambridgeshire FA's discipline manager, Gerry Daish, who believes the U's are a shining example for other clubs in the country.Speaking to the Cambridge News, Daish said: "If you let the discipline slip, and behaviour is part of that, then you're not as good. Cambridge United are demonstrating that beautifully this season. I know it comes from the top. Why are they like that? It's because of Jez George and Richard Money (the U's director of football and head coach) and their whole coaching ethos within the club."
"The best behaved teams are the ones with the most disciplined coaches, and that goes from the professional game right down to mini soccer. It is fantastic what Cambridge United have done and they're not the only successful team in the county with a great disciplinary record."
The U's have picked up eight cautions in 20 league games so far this term and director of football, Jez George, believes that success is achievable if teams are disciplined and well behaved on the pitch: "Sometimes I think that people think if you're not getting yellow cards the team must be soft and therefore unsuccessful."
"Maybe there's a misconception that you've got to be at the bottom of the league to be top of the disciplinary table. We've proved at the moment that the two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. How we're organised and discipline are some of the reasons why we've been successful so far this season. The mentality and ethos goes from the first team right down to the youth development scheme. Our belief is you can only be successful if you're disciplined and well behaved on the pitch."
